Successful Applicant
The HR Consultant will provide a day-to-day advisory service for clients. The role is pivotal in providing a tailored HR service to clients under retainer arrangements and to those who require ad hoc HR support.
New Clients
- Engage with prospective and new clients to gain an understanding of their HR
requirements and their business growth needs - Carry out a HR compliance review with clients
- Review and update existing or draft new HR compliance documents including but not limited to contracts of employment and other employment agreements, handbook and policies, data protection and probation.
HR Support (remote and on clients’ site)
- Support, advise and deliver insightful and practical solutions for clients’ HR issues
including but not limited to onboarding and probation; workplace investigations;
grievances; disciplinaries; poor performance; sickness absence; restructure;
redundancy; TUPE and termination of employment (and all things ‘HR’) - Provide a day-to-day advisory telephone and e-mail service to clients
- Draft letters and documents to support HR matters
- Support client recruitment including designing process, shortlisting, interviewing and
running full assessment centres as needed - Provide on-site HR support either as a regular HR presence or to attend lead meetings
e.g. disciplinary, grievance, sickness absence, maternity - Assist with notetaking at meetings
- Attendance at meetings or to provide a ‘drop-in’ service
- Develop materials to support clients e.g. ‘how to guides’ and accompanying resources
- Maintain client files in HR server
- Build and maintain trusted relationships with clients to support long-term relationship
HR systems
- Proactively up-sell to retained HR clients
- Overview, audit and reporting using HR system on behalf of clients where required
- Utilise other HR systems as appropriate e.g. Hi Bob, BrightPay Connect, Rippling
HR Projects - Lead and manage projects, such as benefits reviews, equality, diversity and inclusion
/ fair work, employee engagement - Lead other projects depending on own specialism e.g. coaching, mediation,
psychometrics
Client training
- Contribute to the development and delivery of management and HR training sessions
- Delivery of Induction on behalf of clients
General
- Raise awareness of legislative changes and HR developments through the writing of
blogs and contributing to legal updates - Peer support (to support developing team members and also to bounce ideas, provide
peer feedback and challenge thinking) - Manage own workload and diary in order to ensure that client expectations are met
- Maintain and update CRM system (Capsule)
CPD
- Identify and undertake suitable continuous professional development e.g. seminars
and webinars, self-study, training sessions and relevant qualifications where
appropriate
Qualifications and Skills
- CIPD Level 7 or an equivalent qualification that enables CIPD membership
- Additional specialism e.g. psychometric testing, coaching qualification or
mediation is desirable - Management qualification e.g. ilm is desirable
- Good generalist HR knowledge (contract and policy design, recruitment, absence
management, performance management and appraisals, compensation and
benefits, employee relations, wellbeing, organisational restructure, talent and
succession planning, investigations, grievance, disciplinary, restructure,
redundancy, TUPE, Settlement Agreements, Acas Early Conciliation) - Solid experience working within UK employment law
- Ability to manage both routine and complex HR matters delivering practical,
tailored HR advice to clients across sectors, each with unique policies and culture - Confidence and credibility in advising senior leadership including board level
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to build strong client relationships
- Commercial outlook
- Excellent time management and can manage own diary
- Ability to work under pressure within a fast moving environment
- Proficient in Microsoft applications
- Full UK Driving licence with access to own vehicle during working hours.
